Hear and feel an atomic explosion. You won’t easily forget it:
AN602, better known as the King of all Bombs (Tsar Bomba) was detonated on October 30, 1961, in the Artic Ocean, by the Soviet Union. To this day, it remains the largest nuclear device ever detonated.
- It had a mass of 60,000 lbs (27,000 kg).
- It’s length was 26 feet (8 meters)
- It’s diameter was 6 feet 11 inches (2.1 meters)
- It was detonated by a barometric sensor
- It’s blast yield was 50 megatons of TNT (50 million tons)
The devastating power of this bomb serves as a reminder of the continuing threat of nuclear weapons and the importance of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation efforts.
